Abstract:
Collection development and library attendance changes in U.S. considered in light of growing use of electronic resources compared to resources on paper. Methods to increase usefulness of licensed databases, library online catalogs and web sites discussed. Metadata formats for description of electronic documents and collections, logical structures of electronic resources as well as standards for metadata harvesting and sharing briefly reviewed. Changes in library education and new responsibilities of librarians dealing with electronic resources considered. Preservation of electronic resources, their impact on students and libraries discussed.
