Combining SfM and ORB Algorithms in 3D Reconstruction

Ilnaz Azatovich Daminov; Alexandr Yurivich Arsenyuk; Alexander Sergeevich Toschev
456-465
Abstract:

This article presents a new algorithm for 3D reconstruction using a combination of two existing methods – Structure from Motion (SfM) and Oriented FAST and Rotated BRIEF (ORB). The authors propose an approach that merges the advantages of both methods to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of reconstructing the 3D structure of scenes from images. To improve reconstruction quality, filtering and outlier removal are applied, along with other optimizations. Comparative results between the new algorithm and existing methods demonstrate its superiority in accuracy and noise robustness. The proposed approach is highly scalable and can be successfully applied in various fields that require precise 3D reconstruction of image scenes.

Abstract:

Satellites in a low-Earth (under 450 km) near-polar orbits provide the required high resolution gravity and magnetic-field measurements. The application of Satellite-to-Satellite Tracking aboard CHAMP and GRACE missions, satellite gradientometry (GOCE mission) makes possible the reliable highly accurate assessments Earth’s gravitational potential. Combining GOCE-TIM4 model with EIGEN-6C and EGM 2008 for degree expansion from 251 to n=1420 and n=2190 form the basis of elaboration new local and regional gravity models. Swarm satellite early magnetic field measurements explicit advantage is taken by including magnetic intensity gradient from the lower satellite pair. Progressively increasing data of global observations opens the way for Earth System Study by bringing disparate sources together.

GPS-tracking on the low orbiting satellites, satellite-to-satellite tracking, satellite gravity gradientometry, sea surface topography, gravity field models, magnetic field gradient satellite data, monitoring solar-terrestrial relations.

Russian Scientific Publication — 2019

382-389
Abstract: The article presents the events that took place last year in the world of Russian scientific publications. There is a slow slide towards paid access of some academic journals turned in open access in 2018. The European Union has announced plan "S" for the mass transition of scientific journals to open access. New models of the scientific publication are introducing. Reporting on publications requested by the Ministry of education and science in 2019 does not take into account the size of the readership of the article. Neither the Ministry of education and science, nor the Higher Attestation Commission (HAC) does not encourage publication in the public domain. In Russian Science Citation Index began the fight against widespread fraudulent trade in references to the article, but the HAC is not interested in this activity. A proliferation of contradictory the term "self-plagiarism" has spread. This label is widely stigmatized authors and journals for repeated publications.
Keywords: open access, plan "S" administrative assessment of article, serial publications, online reader, h-index, Dissernet, self-plagiarism.

Alive Publications are Gaining Popularity

Mikhail Mikhailovich Gorbunov-Posadov
819-829
Abstract:

An alive publication is a new genre for presenting the results of scientific research, which means that scientific work is published online, and then constantly developing and improving by its author. Serious errors and typos are no longer fatal, nor do they haunt the author for the rest of his or her life. The reader of an alive publication knows that the author is constantly monitoring changes occurring in this branch of science. Meanwhile at present, the Russian author who supports an alive publication is dramatically losing out on many generally accepted bibliometric indicators. The alive publication encourages the development of the bibliography apparatus. Each bibliographic reference will soon have to contain such important for the reader updating on-the-fly attribute as date of the last revision of alive publication. It is to be expected that as the alive publication spreads over to the scientific world, the author's concern for the publication's evolution will become like a parent's care for the development of a child. The Internet will be filled with scientific publications that do not lose their relevance over time.

Keywords: scientific publication, dynamic content, article versions, last updated date.

International Virtual Observatory: 10 years after

О.Ю. Малков, О.Б. Длужневская, О.С. Бартунов, И.Ю. Золотухин
Abstract: International Virtual Observatory (IVO) is a collection of integrated astronomical data archives and software tools that utilize computer networks to create an environment in which research can be conducted. Several countries have initiated national virtual observatory programs that will combine existing databases from ground-based and orbiting observatories and make them easily accessible to researchers. As a result, data from all the world's major observatories will be available to all users and to the public. This is significant not only because of the immense volume of astronomical data but also because the data on stars and galaxies have been compiled from observations in a variety of wavelengths: optical, radio, infrared, gamma ray, X-ray and more. Each wavelength can provide different information about a celestial event or object, but also requires a special expertise to interpret. In a virtual observatory environment, all of this data is integrated so that it can be synthesized and used in a given study. The International Virtual Observatory Alliance (IVOA) represents 17 international projects working in coordination to realize the essential technologies and interoperability standards necessary to create a new research infrastructure. Russian Virtual Observatory is one of the founders and important members of the IVOA. The International Virtual Observatory project was launched about ten years ago, and major IVO achievements in science and technology in recent years are discussed in this presentation. Standards for accessing large astronomical data sets were developed. Such data sets can accommodate the full range of wavelengths and observational techniques for all types of astronomical data: catalogues, images, spectra and time series. The described standards include standards for metadata, data formats, query language, etc. Services for the federation of massive, distributed data sets, regardless of the wavelength, resolution and type of data were developed. Effective mechanisms for publishing huge data sets and data products, as well as data analysis toolkits and services are provided. The services include source extraction, parameter measurements and classification from data bases, data mining from image, spectra and catalogue domains, multivariate statistical tools and multidimensional visualization techniques. Development of prototype VO services and capabilities implemented within the existing data centers, surveys and observatories are also discussed. We show that the VO has evolved beyond the demonstration level to become a real research tool. Scientific results based on end-to-end use of VO tools are discussed in the presentation.

How the Latest Release Date of Publication is Formed in Bibliographic Reference "On the Fly"

Mikhail Mikhailovich Gorbunov-Posadov
554-565
Abstract:

The scientific work posted on the Internet, which its author constantly keeps up to date, will be called an alive publication. The genre of alive publishing has many attractive features. However, it requires a certain expansion of the composition of the meta-attributes of the publication: along with the traditional attributes, the date of the appearance of the new, fresh edition is brought to the fore here. Such date is placed in a prominent place in the text of the publication. Along with this, it becomes highly desirable to include such a dynamically ("on the fly") generated date in a bibliographic link to an alive publication. The currently used methods of dynamic extraction of this date are considered for a simple online publication, for a publication that has received a DOI through Crossref, and for a publication posted in arXiv.org.

Keywords: alive publication, dynamic component of the bibliographic reference, the latest revision date, Crossref, arXiv.org, Preprints.org.

The Rating of the Journal in the Bibliographic Database

Mikhail Mikhailovich Gorbunov-Posadov, Tatyana Alekseevna Polilova
1060-1089
Abstract:

The tool for building ratings of scientific journals is one of the popular services of bibliographic databases. The task of building a rating is usually divided into two main subtasks: determining the reference group of journals and calculating the rating indicator for journals of this reference group. Practice shows that for the correct comparison of journals, a necessary condition is to limit the reference group to exclusively journals of a certain subject. In the case of methodological errors made at the stage of selecting a reference group, the values of the journal index in the rating may differ greatly from the expected ones.

For example, in the ranking of journals in the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI) according to the two-year impact factor in the thematic area “Mathematics”, classical fundamental mathematical journals, contrary to expectations, do not reach the first positions of the rating. The first positions were taken by journals for which mathematics is not the dominant profile discipline. Analysis of statistical data on the subject of published articles and citations in journals that occupy leading positions in the RSCI rating shows that the multidisciplinary nature of these journals significantly influenced the rating indicators.

The noted misunderstanding leads to the idea that in this case, not all the articles of the journal should have been involved in the calculation of the rating, but only those related to this thematic area. At the same time, the existing scheme of thematic classification of directions also raises questions. The "bottom-up" classification, which is gaining popularity and works on a representative array of articles, seems to be more promising. Here thematic clusters are isolated on the basis of the concept of proximity of articles, interpreted as the proximity of their bibliographic links. And further, the thematic affiliation of the article is not assigned by the volitional decision of the author or the editorial board, but is strictly formally calculated on the basis of its bibliographic list.

Keywords: scientific publication, citation, rating of journals, thematic classification, impact factor, multidisciplinary, bibliographic reference, co-citation, bottom-up classification, thematic clustering, Citation Topics.

Prospective Bibliography

Mikhail Mikhailovich Gorbunov-Posadov
794-807
Abstract:

The prospective bibliography, i.e., the list of referring publications— is a dynamically drawn-up list of works published after the publication under consideration and contained a reference to it. Leading foreign publishers of scientific journals, as a rule, post lists of referring publications on the web pages of their articles. In our country, the posting lists of referring publications has not yet become the norm, but it is gradually becoming widespread. The implementations of the list of referring publications in a number of characteristic projects are considered. The terminology used is discussed.

Keywords: list of referring publications, citing publications, reverse bibliography.
